Greater Bank is proud to announce its throwing its support behind the Illawarra Hawks, signing a landmark three-year deal.
The new partnership will see the Greater Bank brand take pride of place across the back of the Hawks’ playing singlets, as well as the launch of a new Mental Fitness program – Hawks Helps, delivered to primary and secondary school students across the Illawarra and South Coast
To mark the coming together of these two fixtures of the Illawarra, Greater Bank is hosting Shoot for Greater this weekend.
Taking place at Stockland Shellharbour on Saturday 24 August from 10am, the event will offer fans the first opportunity this season to meet their heroes in the flesh, with Illawarra Hawks players and coaches signing autographs, posing for photos and maybe even offering advice on how participants can make their dunks, layups and free throws even “Greater”.
A centre-piece of Shoot for Greater will be a green screen set up behind a foam pit, giving fans the opportunity to fearlessly fly, ball in hand, like their Hawks heroes.
A photographer will capture the moment, with a little bit of greenscreen magic then transposing the image to show the fearless Hawks fan ‘dunking’ before a packed house at a Hawks home game or at the historic Flagstaff Point Lighthouse!
The epic photo will then be printed off as a physical basketball card to keep as a memento, as well as shared digitally so fans can upload their dunking skills to social media.
An event for the whole family to enjoy, there will also be basketball arcade and VR games at Shoot for Greater ensuring there are plenty of fun activities.
Emma Brokate, Chief Distribution Officer of Greater Bank, hoped the launch would reflect the partnership – a total slam dunk for the whole community.
“The Hawks are a part of the fabric of the Illawarra region, a true asset that the whole community can – and does – take huge pride in getting behind,”

“So, it is a great honour at Greater Bank to see our logo on the shoulders of the iconic black and red singlets, a show to the whole region that we’ve got your back" Ms Brokate said.
“Being such a proud day for Greater Bank, we wanted to celebrate – and what better way to do it than by giving the whole community the opportunity to dunk these icons of the region!
“We can’t wait to see fans all over social media, striking fantastic poses and unleashing their inner Sam Froling or Tyler Harvey.”
Illawarra Hawks CEO Stu Taggart was delighted to welcome Greater Bank to the Hawks Family.
“This is a landmark day for the Illawarra Hawks, for so many reasons,” he said. “As we reaffirm our commitment to the Hawks being a Club that truly matters to the whole Illawarra community, it is so exciting to be announcing a major partnership with a company whose Illawarra history and community values are so totally aligned with our vision.
“Greater Bank have been in the Illawarra even longer than the Hawks,” he added.
“They have been supporting this community since they opened their first branch at Warrawong, in 1973. And our partnership is built fundamentally around that community commitment. It extends Greater Bank’s Community Funding Program, that has already provided over $250,000 to support grassroots community groups in the Illawarra since 2018”.
