Dubbo Devils kick funding goal for Kanga Cup journey

The Dubbo Devils are gearing up for the journey to Canberra for the 2024 Kanga Cup tournament, fuelled by a funding boost after winning the most recent #GreaterCentralWest Community Funding Program.

The Devils’ win marks a significant milestone for the Greater Bank program, having officially awarded over $100,000 to organisations making a difference in and around Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst.

Preparations are in full swing for the Devils ahead of the July tournament, with over 200 players, family members and coaches getting ready to make the trip.

As reigning champions, the Under 10 girls’ team are determined to defend their title at the largest international youth football tournament in the southern hemisphere.

Dubbo Devils coach Matt Stonestreet expressed profound appreciation for the funding boost.

“With eight teams attending this year, more than ever before, $2,000 in extra funding means the world to us. We’re incredibly appreciative to everyone who voted for us,” said Matt.

Highlighting the community spirit, Matt mentioned that many players will bring their entire families along, underscoring the significance of additional support.

“These funds are crucial in covering expenses like accommodation and transport for our families,” Matt said.

“The parents have been working tirelessly to fundraise, and the players are truly grateful for the opportunity to participate.

“We’re immensely thankful for the ongoing support from our local community and the Greater. Every bit truly does count. Our club is looking forward to making Dubbo proud at this year’s tournament.”

Cassie Reynolds, Greater Bank Dubbo Branch Manager, echoed Matt’s sentiments, emphasising the strong local bond with the Devils.

“With players from not only Dubbo but also Gilgandra and Narromine, the region celebrated the Under 10 girls’ victory last year, and we’re eagerly looking forward to supporting all eight teams this year,” said Cassie.

“Seeing the dedication and passion from the players, families and coaches truly embodies the spirit of our community. We’re proud to stand by the Dubbo Devils and assist them in their journey to the Kanga Cup.

“It’s moments like these that highlight the power of unity and support within our community.”

Speaking to the recent funding milestone, Cassie said the Greater is proud of the impact the Community Funding Program has had across the region.

“This month’s win signifies an exciting moment for us, as we celebrate $100,000 of difference made across our whole region. It’s been deeply rewarding to support over 50 organisations – like the Devils – and it’s inspiring to see so many community members voting for not only sporting clubs but also school P&C associations, not-for-profit and volunteer organisations, established charities, and many more.

“Congratulations also to this month’s Community Funding runners up, Orange City Women’s Bowling Club and Orange CYMS Junior Rugby League Football Club! Both organisations will receive $500 for their projects.”

The entrants for the June round of the #CentralWest Community Funding Program, where there’s another $3,000 up for grabs, are Towri Multifunctional Aboriginal Children’s Service Centre, Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council and Friends of Orange Botanic Gardens.

Voting is open online until 5.00pm Wednesday, 26 June at https://www.greater.com.au/greatercentralwest which is also where community groups can register their interest in being part of the program.
