Mount Ousley Physical Culture will update and upgrade club resources thanks to its success in Greater Bank’s #GreaterIllawarra Community Funding Program.
Mount Ousley Physical Culture has received $2,000 for winning the public vote in program’s June round, with $500 going to both Port Kembla Cricket Club and Cringila Lions Football Club as monthly runners-up.
Mount Ousley Physical Culture Head Teacher, Elizabeth Scott, said the club has been empowering girls and women of the Illawarra for more than 60 years.
“Physie truly is a sport for life and Mount Ousley Physie is a not-for-profit club with over 100 members ranging from 2 to 70 years of age,” Elizabeth said.
“At its core, physie enriches the lives of its members through the joy of movement and power of belonging – physie girls stand tall with strength and pride, as team players committed to achieving goals.
“Performed both individually and within a synchronised team, accompanied by a soundtrack of popular music, physie is a sport that fuses pilates, jazz, hip hop, ballet, and contemporary dance.
“We are honoured to accept Greater Bank’s Community Funding support and will invest the prize money back into resources for our club.”

Greater Bank’s Illawarra Regional Sales Manager, Greg Creagan, said physie is an activity for all ages.
“It’s rare to have a sport that offers equal participation for such a broad range of ages, which means it’s something that people can do to stay fit and healthy for many, many years,” Greg said.
“The longevity of the Mt Ousley club is a testament to that and we are proud to make a contribution to their continuing success.”
We have another $3,000 to be shared between the nominees in the July round of the program, with Hospital Art Australia, Illawarra Cancer Carers and Wollongong Illawarra Roller Derby in the running.
Voting in the July round is now open online and closes at 5.00pm Wednesday 26 July, 2023 at greater.com.au/greaterillawarra, which is also where community groups can register to be part of the program.
