There’s been a big boost for local people receiving treatment for cancer thanks to Can Assist Gunnedah’s success in Greater Bank’s #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program.
Winning the public vote earns Can Assist Gunnedah $3,000, with Helping Children and Families Association and Boggabri Women’s Shed each receiving $1,000 as our monthly runners up.
Can Assist Gunnedah is a not-for-profit organisation supported by volunteers who tirelessly fundraise to assist people in our community who are undergoing cancer treatment.
Can Assist Gunnedah Secretary, Linda Lee, said the group is committed to ensuring that people within the Gunnedah region have financial support to help them access cancer treatment and care.
“People going through cancer treatment and their families can experience significant financial hardship that places unwelcome stress on all involved,” Linda said.
“Our fundraising efforts go directly to these families through providing financial assistance for accommodation, fuel vouchers, grocery vouchers, payment of utility bills, pharmaceutical bills and medication bills.
“We usually raise funds through raffles, sausage sizzles, helping at the rugby and events like trivia nights, so $3,000 is a massive boost to our coffers and will make a big difference for us.

“Many thanks to Greater Bank for their continuing support of the New England region through the Community Funding Program.”
Greater New England Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said having additional support during a health crisis is very important.
“People with cancer and their families have it tough enough without having to face financial challenges on top of everything else,” Will said.
“Congratulations to Can Assist Gunnedah and we are delighted to be able to make a contribution to their fantastic efforts.”
The July round of the program has another $5,000 up for grabs between our monthly nominees Tamworth Physical Culture Club, Lake Keepit Family Fishing Club and Billabong Clubhouse.
Voting in the July round is now open online and closes at 5.00pm Wednesday 26 July, 2023 at greater.com.au/greaternewengland, which is also where community groups can register to be part of the program.
