We love all kinds of sport at Greater Bank, but we REALLY love our netball.
Whether it’s encouraging more kids to play for a team as part of their local association or sponsoring Regional Academy programs for players seeking higher honours, we’ve been supporting netball at many levels for more than two decades.
We’re now delighted to confirm that we are again extending our support of netball in Sydney, through a partnership with the Penrith Netball Association, whose competition begins on April 29 and runs through until mid-September.
Association President, Joy Gillett, said she’s looking forward to a season with no interruptions.
“The pandemic forced us to halt our competitions at various times throughout 2020 and 2021, which also saw player numbers drop off somewhat,” Joy said.
“Then in 2022, our region was impacted by flooding which again meant a hiatus for the sport, so we’re hopeful that this year we’ll be able to get through the season without any such challenges.
“Last year, we had 3,800 players and around 400 teams from 21 clubs competing and we are looking at similar numbers for 2023.
“Kids start to play netball from four and five years old and the focus for them at that age is on ball skills, team building and hand-eye coordination.
“Because they’re so young, those children need modified equipment, so the support from Greater Bank helps us invest in portable adjustable goalposts that we can use in different places at different heights to help them develop their shooting skills.
“As they get older, they move to full-size courts and we also foster talented players from our region to take part in the elite pathways programs, which Greater Bank also helps with.
“Knowing we can rely on Greater Bank funding, as we have done for some years now, means less time and energy spent on fund-raising activities and more time focused on netball.
“At a time when the cost of living is rising sharply and insurance premiums have jumped significantly, we are very thankful for Greater Bank’s ongoing support, as it helps us to keep registration fees as low as possible.”
