Greater love of netball renewed for another year

We love all kinds of sport at Greater Bank, but we REALLY love our netball.

Whether it’s encouraging more kids to play for a team as part of their local association or sponsoring Regional Academy programs for players seeking higher honours, we’ve been supporting netball at many levels for more than two decades.

We’re now delighted to confirm that we are again extending our support to netball on the South Coast, through partnerships with the Kiama and Shoalhaven Netball Associations.

Shoalhaven Netball Association President, Kathy Rembisz, said they’re looking forward to playing on brand new courts.

“We have courts under construction at the moment and we’ve been assured they’ll be ready for the start of our competitions on April 29,” Kathy said.

“Our association has up to 800 players from seven clubs taking part each weekend, with ages from five and up and after a few stop-start years with the bushfires, pandemic and flooding, we are excited about having a season free of interruptions and truly getting things back on track.

“COVID really impacted us, as people were not allowed to socialise before and after matches so our canteen was not able to operate in the usual way.

“That meant we lost a key source of fundraising, which made the support we get from Greater Bank even more important.

“The money we make from the canteen pays for new equipment, while the Greater Bank funding helps send our representative teams to the State Championships, as those costs can be quite high with travel expenses and registration fees, so it’s terrific to know we can rely on their support from year to year.”

Kiama Netball Association Registrar, Michelle Gregory, agreed that Greater Bank funding is very welcome.

“Knowing that money is coming in has enabled us to invest in a fully automated timing system and a wireless microphone for the club, which makes running game day so much easier,” Michelle said.

“It also allows us to direct other fundraising activities for new equipment and uniforms.

“We’re also looking forward to a season without interruptions. We had two years of a pandemic and then last year we had a lot of poor weather, which saw a couple of rounds washed out.

“We’ll have 76 teams across our six clubs in 2023, and we’re very excited about our new Cadets age group, which is for 16 and 17 year old girls who want to play netball but are not keen to play in the senior ranks quite yet.

“This innovation has already attracted 30 to 40 girls back to the game, so we’re extremely pleased and proud of that result.”

The Kiama competition gets underway on 29 April and continues through until mid to late September.
