We love all kinds of sport at Greater Bank, but we REALLY love our netball.
Whether it’s encouraging more kids to play for a team as part of their local association or sponsoring Regional Academy programs for players seeking higher honours, we’ve been supporting netball at many levels for over two decades.
We’re now delighted to confirm that we are again extending our support to netball in the New England, through a partnership with the Gunnedah Netball Association.
Gunnedah Netball Association Representative Convenor, Chris Jones, said netball must compete with other sports to attract players.
“Gunnedah is a town of about 13,000 with lots of choices for people about what sports they play. Our association has one club and between 100 and 120 players who are registered for the season which starts in early May,” Chris said.
“From those numbers, we have already committed to fielding three teams for the State Championships in Sydney.
“One team will take part in the Senior Championships over the June long weekend and two teams will head to the Junior Championships on the first weekend of July School holidays. We’re hopeful of sending an additional team to both events.
“The funding from Greater Bank helps cover the transport, food and accommodation costs for players, coaches and officials.
“Each competitor is looking at around $450 for the three days, which is a big impost, especially for families with multiple players, so the funding makes it just that bit more affordable.
“That’s really important with the limited fundraising opportunities we have.
“The girls do chocolate sales, we do a Bunnings’ BBQ and every second year we can do a raffle through the local services club, but otherwise our funding comes from registrations and out of the pockets of the players and their families.
“It’s good to know the funding from Greater Bank is there year after year and we are very thankful for their continued support.”
