Repairing damaged long jump runways is the number one priority for Helensburgh & Districts Little Athletics Club following its success in the #GreaterIllawarra Community Funding Program.
Winning the public vote in the January round means Helensburgh & Districts Little Athletics Club receives $2,000, with $500 each going to monthly runners-up Variety 4WD Adventurers – Illawarra and Illawarra Wheelchair Basketball Inc.
Helensburgh & Districts Little Athletics Club Secretary, Nicole Noble, said it’s a small club with a big heart.
“We have some amazing kids who come together every week and compete at their best, even with limited resources and ageing equipment,” Nicole said.
“Our goal for the season is to have the funds to repair our damaged long jump runways to make them safer for our kids.

“The runways are torn in multiple places and slippery due to age and, with a number of multi-class athletes and tiny tots, safety is our main priority.
“The kids are our club, so we are thrilled to receive this money from Greater Bank which will enable us provide them with basic functioning equipment so they can reach their full potential.”
Greater Bank’s Illawarra Regional Sales Manager, Greg Creagan, said kids shouldn’t be competing in potentially dangerous conditions.
“Events like long jump are difficult enough without being expected to do it on damaged equipment,” Greg said.
“The last thing anyone wants is kids hurting themselves because they’re giving their all under substandard conditions, so we are very pleased to hear that this money will be used for these much-needed repairs.”
The nominees for the February round are Best Friends Forever Rescue Illawarra, Hidden Harvest and Port Kembla JRLFC with another $3,000 on offer
The public online vote is now open at www.greater.com.au/greaterillawarra until 5.00pm Wednesday March 1, 2023.
