New playing strips are top of the list for the Guyra “Spuds” Junior Rugby League Club, after its success in the #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program.
The Guyra “Spuds” Junior Rugby League Club is $3,000 in front after winning the public vote in the January round, with Animal Welfare League – Tamworth and Somerton Public School Canteen each receiving $1,000 as runners-up.
Guyra “Spuds” Junior Rugby League Club Communications Officer, Cate Hayton, said the club punches above its weight.
“Guyra Spuds is an amazing little club from a town of a population of only 2,000,” Cate said.
“We field teams in all age groups from Under 6’s to 16’s in Juniors and three teams in League Tag. In addition, we were named 2022 New England Club of the year and won premierships in under 10s and under 16s!
“Fundraising is difficult in a small town, especially with the rising cost of living, so this money from Greater Bank will help us to cover the cost of new uniforms for our teams for the upcoming season.

“Many thanks must go to Greater Bank for the opportunity to take part in this terrific program and for its continuing support for the New England region.”
Greater New England Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said clubs like the Spuds are a crucial part of what makes country towns great.
“All sporting clubs rely on volunteers for their success and, indeed, their very existence,” Will said.
“Nowhere is that more so than in small country communities like Guyra where people often wear numerous hats, so we are very pleased to support the Spuds and wish the club all the best for continuing success in season 2023.”
There’s another $5,000 on offer in the February round of the program, with Armidale Physie Club, 360 Scully Park Swimming Club (Tamworth) and Curlewis Sporting and Recreation Group (Gunnedah) our nominees for the month.
The public online vote is now open until 5.00pm Wednesday March 1, 2023 at greater.com.au/greaternewengland.
