Players from the Ballina Bin Chooks Waterpolo Club can look forward to new uniforms after the club’s success in the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program.
Taking out the public vote in the January round has earned Ballina Bin Chooks Waterpolo Club $2,000, with our monthly runners-up Ballina Community Men's Shed Incorporated, and the 1st Byron Bay Scouts Group receiving $500 each.
Ballina Bin Chooks Waterpolo Club President, Jasmine Collins, said the club is a new presence in the Far North Coast water polo competition.
“Our men’s open team has played for a few years and then last year we gathered some friends to form the first Bin Chooks Ladies team in an attempt to help rebuild the women’s competition,” Jasmine said.
“As word got out, more and more women showed interest in learning this wonderful and challenging sport, while getting fit and making new friends.
“Our club now has one open men’s team and two women’s teams, and we hope to keep growing in the seasons to come, bringing more joy to the community through team sports.
“Our club provides a fun social outing for men and women of all ages but in particular helping older women remain engaged and discover the joys of a competitive yet social team sport.
“This funding from Greater Bank will be used to provide new uniforms for the players, with any money left over to be put towards pool hire for training sessions.”

Greater Northern Rivers Regional Sales Manager, Scott McCluskey, said this is a great success story.
“It’s fabulous to hear that the Bin Chooks have gone from no women’s teams to two in just one season,” Scott said.
“Keeping fit and healthy by staying physically active is a great reason to play waterpolo but ensuring a connection to community through the social aspect is perhaps even more important, which is why we are delighted to contribute through the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program.”
The February round of the program has another $3,000 on offer, with Eltham Sport and Recreation Committee Incorporated (Lismore), Love for Lismore Heart Space and Association of Veteran Surfers Ballina Byron Inc. in the running as our monthly nominees.
The public online vote is now open at www.greater.com.au/greaternorthernrivers until 5.00pm Wednesday March 1, 2023
