Decodable readers are top of the wish list for the Clergate Public School P&C Association, following its win in the December round of the #GreaterCentralWest Community Funding Program.
Taking out the public vote means Clergate Public School P&C receives $2,000, with $500 going to each of the monthly runners up, Calare Public School and Riding for the Disabled Association NSW - Orange & Bathurst.
Clergate P&C President, Katie-Lee Grambeau said the school is located about 10 kms north of Orange.
“We’re a small school with 88 students enrolled, and the P&C is made up of volunteers whose main focus is to fundraise throughout the year to donate much needed resources to the school,” Katie-Lee said.
“To help raise money, the P&C have introduced a canteen day once a fortnight for the students using a local café, while other fundraising efforts from this year include a pie drive, Bunnings BBQ, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls, a fete and a trivia night.
“We are currently raising funds towards decodable readers for the school’s literacy program, so this money from the Greater will be put towards those resources which will help develop our students’ reading skills.”

Greater Bank’s Central West Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said the readers are an investment in the kids’ futures.
“Decodable readers are a terrific resource that give children strategies to help them figure out a word rather than using pictures or other contextual clues to guess the word,” Will said.
“Reading is the foundation of all learning, so we are delighted to help Clergate with this purchase that will help these kids fulfil their potential.”
The January round of the program also has $3,000 on offer, with Tradies In Sight (Dubbo), Manildra Swimming Club (Orange) and Mitchell Conservatorium Inc (Bathurst Chamber Orchestra), our monthly nominees.
The public can vote online from 9.00am Monday January 9 until 5.00pm Wednesday February 1, 2023 at greater.com.au/greatercentralwest.
