A much-needed cash injection will help the Animal Welfare League - Orange Branch to cover the rising cost of food and defray some vet bills, after its success in the latest round of the #GreaterCentralWest Community Funding Program.
The Animal Welfare League Orange Branch has received $2,000 for winning the public vote in the October round, with $500 going to runners-up, Friends of the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon and LiveBetter Community Services (Dubbo).
Animal Welfare League – Orange Branch Secretary Treasurer, Thelma McGoldrick said demand for their services is enormous.
“There have been a large number of pets surrendered recently as people are returning to onsite work and don’t have time to look after pets they purchased for company while working at home,” Thelma said.
“We foster surrendered pets in private homes and we complete all necessary veterinary work such as desexing, microchipping and vaccinations, which is a major expense, while we try to find permanent homes for the animals.
“Due to COVID we were unable to fundraise and are struggling to buy food and cover vet fees, so this money from Greater Bank will help us to cover those never-ending costs.”

Greater Bank’s Central West Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said caring for animals is an important job.
“The spike in the number of pets being given up as people spend more time away from home, whether they’re working or travelling, has been widely reported,” Will said.
“It’s an unfortunate situation but one that we are happy to be able to assist with through the #GreaterCentralWest Community Funding Program.”
The November round of the program has a further $3,000 on offer to the nominees – Doin’ It For Rural Aussie Kids, CYMS Netball Club and Pinnacle Physical Culture Club.
