Promoting running through a series of events that are open to the public will be the focus of funding secured by Byron Bay Runners from the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program.
Byron Bay Runners has received $2,000 after winning the public vote in the October round, with the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond and Windara Communities each receiving $500 as the monthly runners-up.
Byron Bay Runners Grants Officer, Jacqui Morrow, said the grassroots recreational running club aims to promote running as an affordable and inclusive sporting activity within Byron Bay and the wider Byron shire community.
“The club supports members to achieve their personal running goals, through dedicated coaching programs, track sessions, trail runs and social runs,” Jacqui said.
“Our club members range in age from Juniors (ages 8-12yrs), Seniors (12-18yrs), Open (18-30yrs), and Masters (+30yrs); and we have an even split of females and males across all training groups.
“We provide a supportive environment for those wanting to get into running for fun and fitness, and we create pathways for future running champions to build their running base, hone their competition skills and give back to the sport through volunteering.
“Thanks to the Greater for this funding, which will help cover the cost of staging our Summer Sizzler Series, which sees six events open to both club members and the general public, held throughout the summer season.”

Greater Northern Rivers Regional Sales Manager, Scott McCluskey, said running is an accessible activity for all age groups.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re someone who wants to train seriously or you’re simply running for fun and fitness,” Scott said.
“It’s a terrific activity that doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, so it’s a very egalitarian sport and that’s something we’re very happy to support.”
The November round of the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program has another $3,000 on offer, with the Momentum Collective (Casino), Far North Coast Baseball Association (Lismore) and Casino Show Society our monthly nominees.
The public vote is now open at www.greater.com.au/greaternorthernrivers until 5.00pm Wednesday November 23, 2022.
