Training volunteers to help people in need will be the focus of funding secured by the Salvation Army Orana through Greater Bank’s #GreaterCentralWest Community Funding Program.
The Salvation Army Orana has won the public vote in the August round and receives $2,000, with $500 going to each of the monthly runners-up, Bletchington Softball Club and Bathurst Goldminers Basketball.
Salvation Army Orana Corps Officer Captain David Sutcliffe said the organisation has a proud history of helping people who need a hand.
“The Salvation Army Orana covers the Dubbo and Wellington areas where we run community support programs and provide assistance to people who are doing it tough,” David said.
“As well as food and clothing, we also help out in disasters like bushfires, floods and lost people searches by providing hot meals and refreshment to those on the front line and at evacuation centres.
“We also provide regular meals and a meeting place to members of the community who are otherwise isolated, giving them much-needed social interaction and a point of contact to access other support services.
“One of our key needs at the moment is equipment to help train our volunteers, many of whom are people we’ve helped in the past who don’t have ready access to the sorts of tools and technology required for that training.
“This money from the Greater will make a big difference and will help us buy laptops and tablets so those volunteers can complete the courses they need to do before they are able help others.”

Greater Bank’s Central West Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said the Salvation Army Orana plays a vital role in the community.
“People who get help from the Salvation Army are often in dire need, with various factors beyond their control contributing to their situation,” Will said.
“It’s great that we are able to help out in some small way and it’s extremely gratifying to hear that there are people who have benefited from the Salvos’ help who are now in a position to share their experience with others.”
The nominees for our September round who will share in $3,000 are Orange Aquatic Club, Country Education Foundation - Orange and District Branch, and a Bathurst-based program which is part of the Sydney International Piano Competition.
Voting in the September round of the #GreaterCentralWest community funding program is open from 9.00am Monday September 5 until 5.00pm Wednesday September 28 2022, at greater.com.au/greatercentralwest.
