Replacing food preparation equipment lost in the floods earlier this year is the focus of Woodburn Pony Club, after its success in the August round of Greater Bank’s #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program.
Woodburn Pony Club has received $2,000 for winning the monthly public vote, with Italo Stars Soccer Club Incorporated and Lismore Little Athletics each receiving $500 as runners up.
Woodburn Pony Club is a not-for-profit organisation that was formed to encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding. They provide instruction on riding and horsemanship, and aim to promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship, and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self-discipline.
Woodburn Pony Club Assistant Secretary, Sandy Edgerton, said like many community organisations that were affected by this year’s floods, they are still attempting to get back on their feet.
“The club was severely impacted by flooding earlier this year, as was our local pub, which is another source of fundraising for us, so this money is extremely welcome.
“The Greater funding will allow us to replace equipment in our canteen like sandwich presses and pie warmers so we can raise funds by selling food when we hold our competitions."

“The flooding devastated our local area, so we have been unable to return to full operation or hold a competition day since then, but we are hoping to stage at least one event by the end of the year.”
Greater Northern Rivers Regional Sales Manager, Scott McCluskey, said the resilience of the region’s communities is remarkable
“The damage and destruction wreaked by the record floods earlier this year is hard to comprehend, with all kinds of organisations affected in a myriad of ways,” Scott said.
“It’s been incredible to watch people deal with these setbacks and still have the desire and energy to keep moving forward, so it’s our pleasure and privilege to make a contribution.”
We have another $3,000 to be shared among our September nominees, who are Lismore Public School P&C, Bundgeam Preschool Inc and Precious Plastic Northern Rivers.
The public can vote online from 9.00am Monday September 5 until 5.00pm Wednesday September 28, 2022 at www.greater.com.au/greaternorthernrivers.
