New equipment for archery competitions will be the target for the Armidale Archers, following their success in the #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program.
Armidale Archers has received $3,000 for winning the public vote in Greater Bank’s August round of the program, while $1,000 will go to the monthly runners up, Gunnedah Junior Rugby Union and Tamworth Roosters Junior AFL.
Armidale Archers President, Matt Wolcott, said the club has been going for more than 40 years.
“Armidale Archers is a regional sporting club with an active membership who have made significant contributions to the sport at the regional, state and national levels,” Matt said.
“The club runs regular beginners’ courses to provide the opportunity for Armidale and regional residents to try, and become involved, in the sport.

“Membership fees make up part of our funding, but we raise most of our money through holding archery competitions at a state or national level, which simply hasn’t been possible for much of the past two years because of COVID restrictions.
“That’s why this funding from the Greater is so welcome, as it will make up some of that shortfall and allow us to invest in equipment for tournaments like AV hardware, computers, monitors and timing gear to help take our events and competitions to the next level.”
Greater New England Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said the past couple of years have been very difficult.
“The COVID pandemic has made previously routine activities much more challenging, and that includes travelling for sporting and other community events,” Will said.
“That’s one reason we are very happy to be able to support an important local organisation that has seen many events postponed or cancelled over the past two and a half years.”
The nominees for our September round who will share in $5,000 are Tamworth & District Highland Society, Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club and Armidale’s Australian Transport Museum.
The public can vote online at greater.com.au/greaternewengland from 9.00am Monday September 5 until 5.00pm Wednesday September 28, 2022.
