Animals taken into care often need treatment by a vet which can run into the hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
That is exactly where the money Gunnedah RSPCA Volunteer Branch is receiving from Greater Bank’s #GreaterNewEngland community funding program will be channelled.
Gunnedah RSPCA Volunteer Branch has taken out the July round public vote and with it the $3,000 purse, while monthly runners up, Northern Tablelands Wildlife Carers and Uralla Pony Club, both receive $1,000.
Gunnedah RSPCA Volunteer Branch President, Linda Taylor, said the organisation is totally self-funded.
“We're a small, dedicated branch who work tirelessly to help animals in every situation, including rescuing, rehabilitating and then rehoming animals,” Linda said.
“We continually fundraise through raffles, garage sales, return and earn and the like, with all the money we raise staying in our branch, but vet bills are our biggest concern.

“That includes providing people with vouchers to have animals desexed if they can’t cover that cost themselves.
“The #GreaterNewEngland community funding program is absolutely wonderful and we are extremely grateful for being able to take part.”
Greater New England Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said animal welfare is a very important issue.
“Sometimes circumstances change and people are unable to look after their animals, while sadly sometimes animals are neglected,” Will said.
“Groups like the Gunnedah RSPCA Volunteer Branch play a vital role in caring for pets which would otherwise face an uncertain future, so Greater Bank is pleased to be able to support their endeavours.”
There’s another $5,000 available in the August round and our nominees are Armidale Archers Inc, Tamworth Roosters Junior AFL and Gunnedah Junior Rugby Union. The public can vote online at greater.com.au/greaternewengland until 5.00pm Friday August 19, 2022.
