Ballina netball enjoying Greater support

While the entire country continues to emerge from the COVID pandemic, which brought a host of activities to a halt, the Northern Rivers region is also still dealing with the impact of the record floods that devastated the region earlier this year.

Thankfully, in the case of Ballina, the local netball courts and facilities were spared from any damage, which allowed their competition to get underway in late March.

It’s been a successful and uninterrupted season for the Northern Rivers association, which started its finals series on August 20. The team from Greater Bank’s Ballina branch were there to lend their support through a BBQ, giveaways and a lolly guessing competition.

Ballina Netball Association President, Julie Davies, said it was terrific to bring so many players and their families together right across the season.

“This year we have brought our community together with some brilliant netball experiences, with players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and supporters of all ages and abilities coming gathering to celebrate their love of netball.

“As a volunteer-run association, we rely on registration fees and sponsorship from our local community, but that kind of funding is limited, so sponsorship from an organisation like Greater Bank makes a big difference.

“Beyond the financial support, the support of the Ballina branch staff’s during our finals series showed just how much Greater Bank values the community.”

“Supporting the communities that support us is the Greater Bank way, and netball is such a popular sport, so this is just a great fit for us as,” Tammie said.

“As the biggest local supporter of netball, we had our marquee set up with all our staff on site, which allowed us to not only help the association but also connect with the many people from across the Ballina area that are involved in the sport.

“Our lolly guessing competition was also a great success, generating lots of interest and lots of entries.

“Hopefully we’re past the worst of COVID and we can get back to enjoying these kinds of events more often.”
