A funding windfall from Greater Bank is set to assist Ballina Little Athletics Club in supporting the exceptional growth in participants they have achieved in the last 12 months.
The club has taken out the public vote in the June round of the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program and with it $2,000. Runners-up Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital and Casino & District Family History Group Inc. also benefited, each picking up $500.
Ballina Little Athletics Club President, Briony Leonard, said that through the support of its dedicated volunteers, the club had growth in numbers across all age groups.
“The club runs weekly events developed by a wonderful volunteer committee, providing accessible athletics to children from 3 to 17 years,” Briony said.
“Our athletes learn fundamental skills for athletic development which sees many of our athletes progress to regional and state competitions.
“This year, our club has seen a growth rate of over 200%, so this funding from Greater Bank will help us to provide opportunities for some of our athletes to represent the community at regional and state events, as well as overcoming barriers to allow more kids to take part in athletics.”

Greater Northern Rivers Regional Sales Manager, Scott McCluskey, said it’s great to see such growth in kids’ sport.
“Kids need an outlet for their energy and the athletics club provides that, as well as helping them develop their skills and fitness,” Scott said.
“It’s terrific that the Ballina Little Athletics Club has been able to bounce back after the challenges of the past couple of years and we are proud to support their success.”
Nominees for the July round of the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program are Ballina District Museum and Historical Society, Far North Coast Softball Association and Alstonville RSL Tibouchina Day Club, with the three organisations in the running for a share of $3,000 in monthly funding.
The public can vote online at www.greater.com.au/greaternorthernrivers from 9.00am Monday July 4 until 5:00pm, Wednesday, 27 July 2022.
