Illawarra South Coast Multiple Birth Association (ISCMBA) is now better placed to support families across the region after taking out the the May round of Greater Bank’s #GreaterIllawarra Community Funding Program, and with it $2000.
While there is endless amounts of literature and information for parents of single-born babies, it’s not always the case for those expecting twins, triplets or more.
ISCMBA plays an important role, not only in bridging this information gap, but also connecting parents of multiples, enabling them to discuss issues and share experiences.
ISCMBA President, Elizabeth Harvey, said many parents of newborns need extra support.
“Most parents are a bit bewildered by the whole experience of having a baby, so you can imagine the state of parents who are welcoming two, three or even more children at once,” Elizabeth said.
“All parents of newborns need help, but if you’ve had twins or triplets, your head will be spinning, and that’s where we come in.
“ISCMBA strives to bring families of multiples together and offer support through playgroups, social events, fundraising and social media platforms, allowing another parent in the same situation to provide support, guidance and understanding.

“The funding from Greater Bank will help us to hold some social events that we have had to postpone due to the COVID pandemic as well as helping to keep our membership prices, which pay for our insurances and other expenses, as low as possible.”
The May round’s runners-up, Protect Our Water Catchment Incorporated and Healthy Cities Illawarra, both received $500.
Greater Bank’s Illawarra Regional Sales Manager, Greg Creagan, said having one child at a time is challenging enough.
“Having a baby is an amazing yet challenging time for anyone, but most people will never know just how much extra work is involved in having multiple babies at the same time,” Greg said.
“We are proud to be able to offer some additional help to the ISCMBA to allow them to provide more support to these families.”
