Everyone loves the story of the underdog battling against the odds. But what about the odds of success for a hockey club with no field, no coaches, no umpires and players being ‘banned’ due to COVID?
After enduring a tough two years Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association and its members have something to smile about again after taking out the February round of the #GreaterMidNorthCoast community funding program, and with it $2000.
Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association rep coordinator Alice Hudson said the Association really has had the odds stacked against it.
“We wanted to get five teams to the state championships in January in Goulburn and we were determined to do it for our players no matter what,” Alice said.
“Other teams have ten to twelve players, but we had the minimum seven, which means our players each had a larger financial burden on them in order to play.
“We ended up sending three teams to the state champs, so winning the #GreaterMidNorthCoast community funding round will help to cover those registration fees, as well as helping pay for our court fees. Thank you Greater Bank”.
Also benefiting this round were runners up, Souths Netball Club (Coffs Harbour) and Port Saints Football Club (Port Macquarie), both receiving $500.
Greater Bank’s Mid North Coast Regional Sales Manager, Jennifer Smith, said people who have a go, should get a go.
“It’s great to see Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association succeed despite the challenges they have faced,” Jennifer said.
“It’s this kind of community spirit that really deserves Greater Bank support, so we are delighted at their success.”
