Being mentored by professionals is a dream for many young footballers, but few get the chance, especially in regional areas. SASS Strikers Football Club has changed all that, contributing for Ex A-League players and top coaches to come to Dubbo for its junior training camps in the school holidays.
A funding boost of $2000 courtesy of Greater Bank’s February round of the #GreaterCentralWest Community Funding Program will enable the club to deliver more of these opportunities for aspiring young footballers from the region.
SASS Strikers Football Club President, Shane Fee, said the kids get a lot out of the camps.
“We have dozens of dedicated volunteers who coach and manage the two dozen or so teams we field each year, and we simply couldn’t do it without them,” Shane said.
“But it’s something else again to give young kids the chance to be mentored by top level players and coaches – it’s amazing to see their skills develop in a short space of time.
“SASS Strikers FC contributes towards these events, so we’re very grateful to Greater Bank for their help to cover these expenses through the #GreaterCentralWest community funding program.”
Also benefiting from the February funding round were runners up, Bathurst City Red Tops Soccer and Orange CYMS Senior Soccer Club (Orange), both receiving $500.
Greater Bank’s Central West Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said having professional involvement is inspiring for young players.
“It’s fantastic for up-and-coming footballers to have the chance to learn proper techniques and training methods from people at the top of the game,” Will said.
“We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of these camps and help to bring top level players and coaches to the Central West and continue to build the skills of kids in our region.”
Our March nominees are Anson Street School (Orange), Evans Arts Council Inc (Bathurst) and Macquarie Home Stay (Dubbo), with all three set to receive a share of $3,000 in monthly funding.
