People with a life-limiting illness shouldn’t have to go without help, no matter their situation, which makes Great Lakes Palliative Care Support a worthy recipient of $2000 from the #GreaterMidNorth Coast Community Funding Program.
Great Lakes Palliative Care Support President Deidre Stokes said the money will be extremely useful, especially since other fundraising has been curtailed by COVID.
“As well as accepting donations, we hold events to raise money to help fund the care and support services we provide to those suffering from a life-limiting illness in the Great Lakes,” Deidre said.
“However, COVID has forced the cancellation of a number of those activities, which makes this funding all the more welcome. It will allow us to continue to finance services such as personal care and domestic help, and provide free loan equipment to allow people to stay at home.
“We also provide financial assistance on a needs basis to patients experiencing financial hardship and a service that provides wigs at no cost to the patient.
“If there is a need, we try to meet it if at all possible,” Deidre said.
Tinonee Memorial School of Arts (Taree) and Grafton Jacaranda Festival have both received $500 as the runners-up for the month.
Greater Bank’s Mid North Coast Regional Sales Manager, Jennifer Smith, said Great Lakes Palliative Care Support performs a vital role in the community.

“Looking ahead, the October round of the #GreaterMidNorthCoast Community Funding Program will focus on organisations that have played a vital role in supporting those most in need during these difficult COVID times.
“It’s a way we can say ‘thank you’ for the incredible work they have been doing and providing some financial support that will allow them to continue to help their community.”
The Salvation Army Forster Tuncurry, Hastings Neighbourhood Services and Hope for the Homeless are each vying for a share of $3000 in the October round.
