Supporting the communities that support us has been part of our DNA for more than 75 years, and never has this been more important than it is today.
With many people doing it tough right now, we wanted to spread a little more positivity across the community by providing some random acts of kindness.
You could say we wanted to create ‘Greater Vibes’.
For many people, a good cup of coffee from their favourite cafe provides the perfect start to the day and a simple way of putting a smile on their face.
What could be better? Maybe if that coffee was free.
That’s exactly what happened on Wednesday, 15 September, when we partnered with cafes right across our areas of operation to provide free coffee to their valued customers.
Each of the participating cafes received $350 to pre-purchase coffees for their customers. With a coffee worth around $5 each, that was at least 70 coffees they could give away on the day.
Customers also had the option to ‘pay it forward’ and pass on a free coffee to the next customer. It was another way to keep the feel-good feeling alive!
The initiative was a hit with both café owners and customers alike, with the sentiment best summed up by Steve Black, owner of Natural Choice café, in Penrith.
“It’s been tough for all small businesses in recent times so anything that can help bring in new customers and support the regulars is great,” Steve said.
“Our business is down around 60% as a result of the latest lockdowns so our objective right now is to keep the doors open and our customers happy. If we do this then, finger crossed, we will still be here once we get to the other side.
“This has been a great initiative by Greater Bank. Every bit of support, wherever it comes from, is always welcome and very much appreciated. It was also a great way to thank and support our loyal customers, and they loved it as well. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a free coffee.”

As a result of the initiative, it is estimated that around 3000 free coffees were given away. That’s a lot of ‘Greater Vibes’ across the community.
