Each week across Australia, Orange Sky helps to positively connect with people doing it tough by providing free access to clean laundry, warm showers and genuine conversation. What started in Brisbane as an idea to improve hygiene standards and restore dignity, has grown into something much bigger and more powerful. Although access to services is important, it’s the conversations and regular connections that create the biggest impact in the community.
With a key focus on health hardware access and improving the wellbeing of individuals and families, Orange Sky uses its partnership approach to connect individuals doing it tough with a range of social welfare support services available in local communities.
Through the Greater Charitable Foundation’s investment, trained volunteers facilitate referrals to support services in Taree and the Gold Coast for people accessing Orange Sky’s van or laundry pod in those regions. Funding will also be used for volunteer training and operational support to generate positive long-term outcomes for those in need.
“A friend in Townsville experiencing homelessness attended Orange Sky services and entered a training program with a local employer through connections made while on shift. They received ongoing training, full time employment, secure housing and went on to become a regular volunteer with Orange Sky helping other friends feel supported and connected.”
